COLORFUL CHICAGOBeing a long displaced Chicago native, I take pride in claiming my roots in my hometown. Having traveled all over the world, I instinctively know, and am drawn to, fellow Chicagoans. It seems that no matter how far you roam or for how long, the term "You can take the boy or girl out of Chicago but…well, you know the rest. Native Chicagoans share so memories and experiences that are uniquely Chicago. With that in mind, when I was asked to plan a recent Chicago charter bus tour, I immediately thought of the places few non-Chicagoans would ever visit…an insider's tour of the windy city. Things may have changed in this post-Obama period but, few tourists ever visit the Southside's Jackson Park. Located in President-elect Obama's Hyde Park neighborhood, Jackson Park is home to Japanese Garden, Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, the 63rd Street Beach House along Lake Michigan, and a golf course. It has also been touted as a possible location for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Very simply said, Chicago is home to some of the world’s most spectacular
architecture. No visit would be complete without a tour of Sears Tower,
the Reliance building, the John Hancock Building (fondly nicknamed “Top
o’ the Rock”), and the Rookery. Walking tours are offered
through Architecture
Foundation Tours but, make sure you board your Chicago charter bus
for the ride out to Oak Park, home of Frank Lloyd Wright, his studio,
Unity Temple, and examples of the prairie style architecture developed
during his “1st golden age.” . |
